Robots from ABB are used. Together with Oest Systems and the adhesive manufacturer Jowat, the University of Kassel has developed a sophisticated end effector with a pump system for applying the adhesive. It can simultaneously extrude, glue and automatically cut the beech veneer strip, which is delivered on 200-meter rolls. Two integrated compression springs in the end effector can be used to set a defined tensile force on the veneer strip. This ensures sufficient contact pressure for gluing in the winding process. Subsequent pressing using formwork or vacuum bags is no longer necessary.
